Thousands of pilgrims sleep in the central square of the Temple of Tepeyac on the night of the anniversary of the apparition. After traveling for days by foot many are exhausted and need medical attention. Local residents give out food and water to the pilgrims.

This is a powerful depiction of the threatened nomad lifestyle. The carts are tangible symbols of a by-gone era of a prosperous nomadic lifestyle. However, they have not moved in seven years as nomadism no longer serves a purpose in modern India. The wall behind the carts marks the division between the settlement and the town. Racial, social and economic barriers that isolate the nomads; they are on the margins of society.
